Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 1, 2026

This policy explains how Dune Jar: Sand Pictures (the "App") handles information on iPhone (App Store) and Android (Google Play). You never need an account, and we never ask for your name, email address or phone number. Your jars, progress, shelf, streaks and settings are stored on your device.

What the App collects

The App and the service providers listed below collect the following. None of it is linked to your name or contact details.

  • Play data: events such as jars started and corked, scores, tools used and Daily Jar streaks, used to tune the jars and improve the game.
  • Device and diagnostic data: device model, operating system version (iOS or Android), language, app version, crash reports and performance data, used to find and fix problems.
  • Advertising identifier: on iPhone, the IDFA, only if you allow tracking in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. On Android, the Google advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in your device settings. Advertising partners use it to show relevant ads and measure them.
  • Approximate location: advertising partners may infer a coarse location such as country or city from your IP address. The App never uses GPS location.
  • Purchases: Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) processes every payment. We only learn that a purchase such as "Remove Ads" happened, never your payment details.

Sharing and saving your jars

When you share a finished jar, the App makes a short video of your pour (or a picture of your jar) on your device and hands it, with a short caption, to the system share sheet. You choose where it goes, for example a message or your photo library; we do not receive it.

When you tap Save to Photos on a jar wallpaper, iOS asks for permission to add images to your photo library, and the App saves only that one image. On Android, Save to Pictures saves that one image to the Pictures/Dune Jar folder without any storage permission. The App never reads your photos and does not use your camera, microphone or contacts.

Daily reminder

After your first Daily Jar the App asks whether you want a reminder each morning. If you say yes, your phone asks for permission to show notifications (on Android 13 and later; older Android versions allow them by default), and the reminder is scheduled on your device. No notification server is used and no data leaves your device for it. Turn it off any time in the App (Settings › Daily reminder) or in your phone's notification settings.

Game Center and Google Play Games

On iPhone, leaderboards and achievements use Apple Game Center; on Android, where available, they use Google Play Games. If you are signed in, Apple or Google shares your player name and scores so you can appear on leaderboards. There is no online play or chat.

How we use information

  • To run the game, including leaderboards and achievements.
  • To understand how jars are played and make them better.
  • To diagnose crashes and performance issues.
  • To show ads that keep the App free, and to measure them.

We do not sell your personal information.

Your choices

  • Tracking (iPhone): allow or deny it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt, and change it any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
  • Advertising ID (Android): reset or delete it in your device settings (usually Settings › Privacy › Ads, or Settings › Google › Ads). Once deleted, ad partners can no longer use it.
  • Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): before personalized ads, the App asks for your consent in its own screen, with equal Agree and Decline buttons. If you decline, ads are not personalized. Change it any time in the App: Settings › Privacy Choices.
  • Fewer ads: the one-time "Remove Ads" purchase turns off the ads between jars. The optional ad that adds more sand stays available only if you choose to watch it.
  • Game Center / Google Play Games: sign out in iOS Settings or in the Google Play Games app to stop sharing your player name and scores.

Keeping and deleting data

Everything stored on your device is removed when you delete the App. Play statistics and crash data are kept by our providers for a limited time, then deleted. Because this data is not tied to your identity we usually cannot find one person's records, but write to us and we will help with any access or deletion request as far as we can.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

This website

The online Daily Jar and the guides on this website need no account and set no cookies. The website uses no advertising. To count visits it uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, does not use local storage for tracking and does not fingerprint your browser; we only see totals such as page views, the referring site, country and device type, never who you are. Your jar in progress, the jars you have corked and your streak are kept only in your browser's local storage, never sent to us, and you can clear them by clearing this site's data in your browser. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site.

Security and changes

Data sent by the App travels over encrypted HTTPS connections. If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and announce important changes in the App or on this page.
