Frequently asked questions

What is a nonogram?

A grid puzzle where numbers beside each row and above each column tell you the runs of painted cells in that line, in order. "3 1" means three painted cells in a row, at least one empty cell, then one more. Paint the cells the numbers prove and mark with × the ones they rule out. In Many Hands every square is a 10×10 nonogram, and together the squares make a painting.

Do I ever need to guess?

No. Every square is checked by a solver before it ships: each cell can be proved by reading one row or one column at a time. If the numbers alone are not enough, the hand before you paints a few cells (marked with a pink dot) so you never have to guess.

I'm stuck. Can I get help?

Tap Borrow to have a previous hand paint one row for you (optional, with a short ad; at most two per square). After three wrong submits, a row is painted for you for free. Lessons in Settings also show how to read the numbers.

What happens if I don't finish my square in 10 minutes?

A square is held for you for 10 minutes. If the time runs out, or after five wrong submits, it goes back to the pool so someone else can finish it. Nothing is lost on the mural; just take another square.

What is my seal?

A small pink stamp generated just for your device, with no name or text. It is printed on every square you solve, so you can find your hands on the mural. Open Your seal to see your hands, streak, murals and rankings.

How do the lessons work?

Before your first real square the game offers five short lessons, about two minutes in all: reading the numbers, overlap, several numbers and gaps, rows help columns, and a real square. Each one points at the line to read and has a Show me button. Replay them any time from Settings › Lessons, or read the rules in Settings › How to play.

When does a new mural start?

A new issue starts every day at midnight UTC with a new painting. If a mural is nearly finished, another one may open the same day. When a mural is complete, the reveal shows everyone's print next to the original painting, and the gallery keeps the murals you helped finish.

Can I play offline?

Yes. Without a connection the App opens the Sketchbook: practice squares in grey ink that stay on your device. They do not count toward a shared mural. When you are back online, today's print returns.

I saw an inappropriate ad. How do I report it?

In the App, open Settings › Report an ad, or email us with a short description or a screenshot of the ad and roughly when you saw it. We will block it with our ad partners.

I bought Remove ads. How do I restore it?

Is Many Hands on Android?

Not yet. It is coming to Google Play; this page will link to it when it is out.
